So You Want The Story Huh?

I’m Bonnie and I put the ‘B’ in Sweet B’s. Sweet B’s started as a hobby. I like food, I like art. This is fun. Fun. Not a career, but fun. In the back of my mind, I always wished it could be a career, but didn’t have the courage to take that plunge. One day an important woman in my life looked at me and said ‘Well, your (office) job sounds just fine, and don’t take this the wrong way – but I always thought you’d be doing something much more creative’. It was true – I’ve always been a creative soul. But I resisted. And then a funny thing happened. I started feeding more people. And people demanded to be fed.

With a little prompting from the man in my life, I decided to take said plunge – but to do it right. I wanted to know and learn as much as I possibly could. I was accepted to Georgian College, where I learned all aspects of the kitchen and the business side of it all. Along the way I met some fantastic people and inspiring chef’s who made the experience an unforgettable one. By this time, Sweet B’s had been born and I had been doing it here and there for hungry friends and family...but with my Culinary diploma in hand, I was ready to make it ‘a thing’. I continued by frequenting local festivals, such as Bradford’s Ribfest and Carrotfest. It started to get to the point where I needed a kitchen to call home. My ‘fan’ base was growing. A year or so went by – a baby came, life happened, desserts and cakes were plenty. And then it was time. I found the perfect space and decided to call it home.

We quickly outgrew our original little space at 18 Holland Street West and into a bigger space just around the corner at 4 Holland Street West. Our new resting place has led to many great things. It really does have the warmth and feeling of ‘the community’s bakery’. I certainly wouldn’t be here without them! Now many years later, we have solidified our presence in Bradford and have an amazing team that works together to fill your bellies and sweeten up your celebrations.

The short of the story? Life is short. Eat it up.
